SNOWSTORM HITS SPITSBERGEN
A full scale snowstorm hit Spitsbergen last week. The wind picked up to 30 m/s. The storm did not last too long, and we only had to make small changes to our expeditions. The storm could have broken the ice around Templefjorden, causing the ship in the ice to break loose. Luckily the ice was thick enough to weather the storm well. Afterwards we heard from our Captain that the storm was not as heavy around Templefrjoden as it was in Longyearbyen, just 60 km away. The weather in Spitsbergen is unpredictable, which is why that’s why we always recommend that visitors use guided tours when travelling around Spitsbergen.
