Ingrid Walør Indal
Born and raised in Bardu, but lured to Svalbard by family who invited Ingrid to visit the archipelago at 78 degrees north. 22-year-old Ingrid has now lived in Longyearbyen for three years, and has, among other things, taken a year of Arctic outdoor life at Svalbard Folk High School and a year of studies at Arctic Nature Guide at the University of Svalbard. Now she welcomes guests at Basecamp Hotel, when she is not exploring nature.
“It is out in the wilderness that I really find peace, nature means a lot to me. Climate change is very noticeable here in Svalbard, so I am lucky to experience the Arctic before the changes become even greater.”
The sunny winter is Ingrid’s preferred season. Then she goes out on a snowmobile or goes on long trips with a sled, skis and friends.
“Sitting in the sun at home or in a cabin, and feeling that it is warm, is a very special feeling. That is when Svalbard is extra nice.”
