Inge Jørstad
A deep sense of adventure, combined with a lifelong love for northern nature, has brought Inge to Isfjord Radio and Svalbard. As the station’s operation manager and handyman, Inge ensures that everything runs smoothly, from filling water tanks to hoisting goods off the quay with a crane.
Born under the northern lights on the island of Senja, Inge was raised in Ibestad near Harstad and has lived most of his adult life in Tromsø. Surrounded by rugged landscapes that shaped his passion for the outdoors. His life has been a tapestry of Arctic adventures, from top-tier ski touring to freediving straight off a sailboat.
With over 40 visits to Svalbard under his belt, Inge’s experience is as vast as the landscapes he loves. He’s served as operations manager on Bjørnøya and most recently worked as an operations and maintenance engineer in Troms County Municipality. Now, he’s thrilled to call Isfjord Radio home.
“Every time I arrive in Longyearbyen, I’m struck by the beauty of the Arctic landscape and its unique culture,” says Inge. “When I first visited Isfjord Radio on a work trip, I was blown away by the warm welcome and the spectacular surroundings. Working here is truly a dream come true.”
Inge is excited to share his passion for the Arctic wilderness and cultural heritage of Isfjord Radio. “I look forward to creating unforgettable adventures for our guests, working alongside incredible colleagues, and immersing myself in this Arctic paradise”.
