About Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen

Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen offers adventures in the extraordinary environment of Spitsbergen. At 78 degrees North, climate change is no longer just a theory—it’s a reality. And the island’s trapper culture isn’t just a piece of history; it remains vibrant and alive today.

Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen operates four eco-lodges and offers a wide array of Arctic adventures, all rooted in ecological principles. Our operations are deeply connected to the stunning landscape and outdoor exploration, where encounters with polar bears and other rare Arctic wildlife are entirely possible.

We first arrived on Spitsbergen in 1998, establishing our initial lodge much like the trappers of old—constructed from driftwood, tar paper, and recycled materials. Since then, we’ve steadily expanded our presence, creating unique, world-class destinations that immerse guests in the Arctic wilderness.

Despite its history of coal mining and trapping, Spitsbergen remains largely unspoiled—a pristine wilderness and one of the most delicate ecosystems on the planet. As a tourism company, we recognize the importance of protecting this fragile Arctic environment and are committed to its preservation.

We warmly invite you to join us on our expeditions, where you’ll experience one of the most extraordinary natural environments on Earth—all with a clear conscience. Together, we are making meaningful strides toward combating global warming. We also encourage you to leave a positive footprint, contributing to the preservation of the Arctic for future generations.
