Guro Ravlo Sakshaug

Nature freak! Guro has had nature as her playground since she was born, and together with her family she has explored mountain peaks, forests and plains – all year round. In 2023 Guro completed the sports fishing national course at upper secondary school, and in August she was ready for new challenges in the Arctic.

– The reason why I chose Svalbard is a combination of the fact that I was ready for a new adventure and that I have always been curious about the arctic nature, as well as the fact that I had heard so many good things about the people and the local environment here! An regular life is not for me, so I think that Svalbard offers a unique opportunity to meet like-minded people, explore new aspects of outdoor life and at the same time work in a cool company, explains Guro.

Guro has been quite busy throughout her teenage years. She has worked in sports, leisure and outdoor stores, at airports, in cafes and at alpine resorts. Guro thrives in niche companies that focus on service and offer unique customer experiences, and this is exactly her work day at the reception at the Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen.

Camping, randonee, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, hiking to the peaks and not least fly fishing! Guro has been fishing with her father in Stjørdal, Trøndelag, since she was little, and is a certified fly fishing instructor.

– I haven’t been here long enough to experience all the seasons on Svalbard, but I feel an enormous sense of freedom in the arctic nature. The hiking possibilities are almost endless, and I’m looking forward to all the adventures that await in the wilderness.
