Marcos Astete

In 2016 Marcos decided to leave his home in Sweden and take a break from his studies to become a mechanical engineer. The aim was to find a job somewhere in Norway, close to nature. Luck and coincidence brought him further north than he could have imagined. The hustle and bustle of his hometown Stockholm was replaced with the peaceful and wild nature of Svalbard.

Marcos’ first job was as a receptionist at one of the hotels in Longyearbyen but he soon discovered that Svalbard was best experienced in the field and the dream of becoming a guide was born. This temporary adventure ended up becoming his life. Having since re-trained, Marcos has worked as a guide for the past five years, taking guests out on trips by snowmobile, hiking and boat.

Marcos’ love for nature extends beyond experiencing it and so, in 2022 he decided to join a cleaning operation in Norway whose aim is to clean 20 000 beaches before 2025. He is now back for another winter season and looks forward to guide you into the great beauty that is Svalbard.
