Nilmini Anthonypillai
Nilmini is our brilliantly cheerful receptionist at Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen. She is originally from Sri Lanka, but moved to Bergen, Norway, in 2000. Now she lives in a quite different climate to the one she grew up in.
– I really enjoy working with people, and have worked in a nursery and in a shop. I have also worked as a document controller for 10 years in the oil industry, says Nilmini.
The interest in working closely with people led Nilmini to become a security guard, and worked as such at Flesland Airport in Bergen. Before she got the opportunity to work at Longyearbyen Airport in Svalbard.
And in the arctic island kingdom she found love! And then it was not difficult for Nilmini to stay in the north. She is also very fond of nature, and goes on walks a lot.
– I love winter in Svalbard, laughs Nilmini.
