Isfjord Radio – Comfort at the Edge of the World
100 kilometers beyond Longyearbyen, where the road ends and the Arctic begins, you’ll find Isfjord Radio.
Once a vital communication hub for explorers and trappers, today it’s a remote boutique hotel unlike anything else in the world.

Perched on the windswept coast at Kapp Linné, this outpost blends raw wilderness with refined comfort. Here, the silence roars, the sea stretches endlessly, and your only neighbors might be a passing reindeer or curious seal.

This is not a place you stumble upon.
It’s a place you earn.
Extraordinary. Isolated. Unforgettable.

Day 1

3:00 PM – Pick-up at your hotel or guesthouse in Longyearbyen
Your Arctic journey begins! We recommend packing light—just one bag—as space onboard the boat is limited. Any extra luggage can be safely stored at Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen.

3:30 PM – Welcome aboard Nordvest
We set course westward across Isfjorden, cruising towards the remote outpost of Cape Linné. Settle in and take in the views as the Arctic landscape unfolds before you. Upon arrival at Isfjord Radio, your hosts will be ready to greet you with warm smiles and wilderness hospitality.

5:00–6:30 PM – Station walk & Arctic wellness
Join your hosts for a guided walk around the station, where you’ll hear stories from Isfjord Radio’s fascinating past as a former communication hub. Afterwards, step into the sauna on the sea cliff and soak in the sweeping view of the Arctic Ocean. With luck, you might even spot wildlife passing by in the waves below.

7:30 PM – Arctic-inspired dinner
Gather in the dining room for a multi-course Arctic menu, thoughtfully prepared by our chefs using seasonal ingredients. Please inform us in advance of any dietary restrictions or allergies, so we can tailor your experience accordingly.

Clothing and equipment

In spite of Spitsbergen’s northern location, the archipelago has a relatively mild climate compared to other areas on the same latitude. In summer, the average temperature in Longyearbyen is approximately 5 ° C. There is normally very little rain, although it is not unusual that there is fog and low clouds. Even if there is little rain, the ground is often wet due to the melting snow. The weather on Svalbard changes quickly, and local variations can be huge – so it is better to have little bit too much clothes with you. We recommend to pack your belongings in a backpack or soft bag, as it will be most convenient for you on Isfjord Radio. Since the space on the boat is limited., you can bring one piece og luggage per person. You can store excess luggage at Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen. Below you can find our packing advise for your adventure in Svalbard.

Note

Safety

Isfjord Radio is a wilderness hotel and to move outside you need a guide with rifle for polar bear protection.

Language

Safety is our top priority during our trips. It is necessary for you to be able to communicate in English or a Scandinavian language if you want to join our excursions. The tour language (English or a Scandinavian language) will be chosen based on the group’s language skills.

Weather conditions in Svalbard

In Spitsbergen, weather conditions can change quickly. We can meet heavy winds, snowstorms or thick fog, crevasses and lack of snow or ice. This means we might need to make changes to the planned route, and this might lead up us not arriving to the planned destination. It can also mean that we need to use a different transportation style or accommodation than what was described in the program. We will always do our outmost to give our guests a great experience in the Arctic, but we must be aware that characteristics of the destination.
