Have you Listened to the sounds of a glacier?

Nordenskiöld Lodge offers a unique retreat nestled amidst the glacier moraine at the base of the imposing Nordenskiöld glacier, situated far from the usual tourist routes in the remote wilderness of Spitsbergen. Here, guests can enjoy a much-needed digital detox while embarking on spectacular adventures, far removed from civilization.

Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of the hummocky moraine as you explore on foot, or challenge yourself with a glacier hike, strapping on crampons to navigate the icy terrain. For a different perspective, paddle alongside the glacier front, observing the rich wildlife that inhabits the area.

At Nordenskiöld Lodge, modern amenities are eschewed in favor of a simpler, more authentic experience. There is no running water or electricity; instead, wood is used to heat the cabin and sauna, while drinking water is obtained by melting ice from the glacier. Listen closely, and you’ll hear the glacier speak with cracking sounds, loud roars, whispers, and the occasional crash of ice breaking off the glacier front.

Here, amidst the pristine wilderness and the symphony of nature, guests are invited to disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with the raw beauty of the Arctic landscape.

Just like a true adventure, we offer exhilarating experiences year-round. In the summer, join us for scenic walks exploring the stunning surroundings, thrilling climbs on the blue glacier, and peaceful paddling in the bay. As winter blankets the landscape, embark on an unforgettable journey to the northernmost commercial cabin aboard our snowmobiles, traversing the snowy terrain for an Arctic expedition like no other. Whether under the midnight sun or the dancing auroras, each season brings its own magic and endless possibilities for exploration and discovery.

As the Arctic night envelops the pine cabin, you can rest your head on a soft pillow, wrap yourself in warm blankets, and immerse yourself in the serene embrace of the Arctic silence. In this tranquil sanctuary, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you can truly unwind and find peace amidst the stillness of the polar night.

A stay at Nordenskiöld Lodge offers a retreat into splendid solitude, providing a much-needed detox from the hustle and bustle of online and busy city life. Here, amidst the pristine wilderness of Spitsbergen, guests have the opportunity to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with the natural rhythms of the Arctic landscape. It’s a chance to recharge, rejuvenate, and rediscover the beauty of simple living in harmony with nature.

Wooden Cabin

The Nordenskiöld glacier is part of a larger glacier that extends all the way up to the north coast of Spitsbergen. This is as far as one can reach with motorized vehicles. From here it is ski or dog sledding that applies if you want to continue the journey. In the summer we arrive at Nordenskiöld Lodge by boat, and in the winter we go on a snowmobile or dog sled.

The cabin is a hidden gem, which is almost impossible to see in the mighty surroundings. Interior expert Halvor Bakke has been inspired by the surroundings, and created a warm expression where the view of the glacier, the mountains and the fjord is emphasized by colors and materials in the cabin.

Nordenskiöld Lodge has five guest rooms with comfortable beds. Here you fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the glacier! The cottage has a shower and indoor toilet. Our hosts are always present to give you the best experiences, at the pleasant dining table or around the fire with something good in the glass. They fire in the sauna and in the wood stove, make tasty food and are happy to share their Arctic knowledge.

Nordenskiöld Lodge is one of Norway’s coolest places to stay! And the world’s northernmost commercial cottage. A hidden treasure in the middle of mighty Svalbard.

Welcome to the world’s northernmost commercial cabin. Hidden in the glacier moraine you can find our Nordenskiöld Lodge. Spend your days hiking on the shiny glacier or paddle among the glacier ice, seals and belugas. Here, high up the Arctic, far from any traffic, you get to experience true arctic silence.
