Have you Listened to the sounds of a glacier?
Nordenskiöld Lodge offers a unique retreat nestled amidst the glacier moraine at the base of the imposing Nordenskiöld glacier, situated far from the usual tourist routes in the remote wilderness of Spitsbergen. Here, guests can enjoy a much-needed digital detox while embarking on spectacular adventures, far removed from civilization.
Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of the hummocky moraine as you explore on foot, or challenge yourself with a glacier hike, strapping on crampons to navigate the icy terrain. For a different perspective, paddle alongside the glacier front, observing the rich wildlife that inhabits the area.
At Nordenskiöld Lodge, modern amenities are eschewed in favor of a simpler, more authentic experience. There is no running water or electricity; instead, wood is used to heat the cabin and sauna, while drinking water is obtained by melting ice from the glacier. Listen closely, and you’ll hear the glacier speak with cracking sounds, loud roars, whispers, and the occasional crash of ice breaking off the glacier front.
Here, amidst the pristine wilderness and the symphony of nature, guests are invited to disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with the raw beauty of the Arctic landscape.
Just like a true adventure, we offer exhilarating experiences year-round. In the summer, join us for scenic walks exploring the stunning surroundings, thrilling climbs on the blue glacier, and peaceful paddling in the bay. The Nordenskiöld glacier is part of a larger glacier that extends all the way up to the north coast of Spitsbergen. This is as far as one can reach with motorized vehicles. From here it is ski or dog sledding that applies if you want to continue the journey. In the summer we arrive at Nordenskiöld Lodge by boat, and in the winter we go on a snowmobile or dog sled.
The cabin is a hidden gem, which is almost impossible to see in the mighty surroundings. Interior expert Halvor Bakke has been inspired by the surroundings, and created a warm expression where the view of the glacier, the mountains and the fjord is emphasized by colors and materials in the cabin.
