A remote outpost
Experience the solitude of Isfjord Radio, a remote outpost far removed from civilization and inaccessible by road. In winter, arrive by dog sled or snowmobile, traversing glaciers and mountains. In summer, embark on a boat safari across the Arctic Ocean.
Built in 1933, the radio station’s exterior may appear rugged, but upon entering, you’ll be greeted by a comfortable hotel with a modern and inviting interior. During your stay, choose from a selection of guided adventures to explore the pristine wilderness.
As you awaken in this breathtaking setting, you’re prepared for an exhilarating day in the Arctic. Encounter wildlife as you explore; with approximately 3,500 polar bears on Svalbard, it’s not uncommon for them to visit us at Isfjord Radio. Rest assured, your safety is our top priority, and you’ll have our protection at all times.
After a day brimming with Arctic adventures, unwind in our architectural gem – the sauna. With its breathtaking view, especially when a group of whales passes by, it’s an experience like no other.
After a relaxing session in the sauna followed by a refreshing drink, prepare yourself for an exquisite and flavorful meal. We source local Svalbard produce from one of the remaining trappers on the island, allowing our chefs to craft fine dining experiences inspired by the Arctic region.
Isfjord Radio offers unique wilderness accommodation about 90 km from Longyearbyen. At summertime we have boat safaris from Longyearbyen to Isfjord Radio, in the winter a stay at Isfjord Radio is included in a snowmobile or dogsledding adventure.
The hotel consists of a main building and two separate houses containing bedrooms. Every building has separate toilets and washrooms with shower. The sauna is situated on the edge of the tundra, with a wonderful view to the Isfjorden and Forlandet islands.
Please note that Isfjord Radio is a wilderness hotel and to move outside you need a guide with rifle for polar bear protection. You can buy additional adventures at Isfjord Radio with the room booking.
